Pulsecima Pulse: A Pingdom Alternative

For teams looking for something simpler and cheaper for a smaller number of URLs.

Pingdom (part of SolarWinds) is an established, enterprise-capable monitoring platform with real user monitoring (RUM) and synthetic monitoring built in. If you're looking at it mainly for uptime/response-time checks and finding it's more than you need, here's how Pulsecima Pulse compares.

Pulsecima has a permanent free tier

As far as we can tell, Pingdom offers a 30-day free trial rather than a permanent free plan — after the trial you need to be on a paid plan to keep monitoring. Pulsecima Pulse's Free plan (3 URLs, checks every 10 minutes) has no time limit and needs no credit card.

Cheaper entry point for a handful of URLs

Pingdom's plans are typically priced for a bundle of monitors (reportedly around $10–15/month for roughly 10 monitors) rather than per URL, so the entry cost is largely the same whether you're monitoring 1 URL or 10. Pulsecima Pulse bills per active URL starting at $1.49/URL/month, so monitoring just 1–3 URLs costs a few dollars a month rather than a flat $10+ minimum.

Quorum alerting

Pulsecima Pulse checks your URL from multiple independent regions, and only alerts you when more than one region agrees something is actually down — reducing false alarms from a network blip near a single checker location. Your dashboard shows a running count of alerts this has suppressed for you.

Heartbeat Checks bundled free

Cron job / scheduled task monitoring (a dead-man's-switch: your job pings a URL on success, and you're alerted if it doesn't check in) is included on every Pulsecima plan at no extra cost.

What Pingdom offers that Pulsecima doesn't (yet)

To be fair about it: Pingdom includes real user monitoring (RUM) and page-speed/performance insights alongside uptime checks, SMS alerts are bundled into its plans, and as an established SolarWinds product it has a longer track record and broader enterprise features (SSO, more integrations) than Pulsecima currently does. If you need RUM or SMS alerting specifically, Pulsecima Pulse isn't a fit yet — it currently supports email, webhook, and (on Pro) PagerDuty alerts.
