Two genuinely similar tools, with a very different pricing model. Here's the actual difference.
updown.io is a solid, developer-oriented monitoring tool, and it's closer to Pulsecima Pulse in spirit than most alternatives — it already does two-location confirmation before alerting and includes cron/heartbeat ("Pulse") monitoring, similar to what Pulsecima Pulse does. We won't pretend those are things only we offer. The real difference between the two is the pricing model and what "free" means.
A recurring free plan, not a one-time credit trial
updown.io works on prepaid credits (1 credit = 1 check) — new signups get 100,000 free credits to try it, but once those run out, you're buying another credit pack. Pulsecima Pulse's Free plan (3 URLs, checked every 10 minutes) doesn't expire and doesn't require topping up credits — it's free every month, indefinitely.
Flat per-URL pricing instead of budgeting credits
With updown.io, your monthly cost depends on how many URLs you monitor and how often you check them, spent down from a credit pack you estimate and buy in advance. Pulsecima Pulse bills a flat rate per active URL at your plan's fixed check interval — no credit math, no risk of running out mid-month. Whether that's better for you depends on how much you value predictability over squeezing out the lowest possible per-check cost.
Where updown.io has the edge
To be fair: at high check frequency and volume, updown.io's credit pricing can work out cheaper than Pulsecima's per-URL plans — their own example prices checking 10 sites every 2 minutes at roughly €1.83–5.49/month, faster and potentially cheaper than Pulsecima's equivalent tier. updown.io also supports TCP/ICMP checks, SSL/TLS and domain-expiration alerts, and dual-stack (IPv4/v6) monitoring, none of which Pulsecima Pulse currently offers — Pulsecima checks over HTTP(S) only. If you need protocol-level checks or want to pay as little as possible per check at high volume, updown.io is worth a look.
